Our students and alumni at work:
- Art History students present research at national and international conferences: Mariana Gomez, James Cartwright, and Ashley Williams.
- Undergraduate students selected for Juried Annual University Student Exhibition at the Atlantic Center for the Arts every year since it began in 1990.
- Catherine Gomez, BFA alumna, awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad in Chile. Gomez was also a 2018 Research in Arts Scholar.
- Ellen Mueller, a 2011 alumna of the USF MFA in Studio Art program and a professor at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, published a textbook in 2018 with Routledge Press entitled, âRemixing and Drawing: Sources, Influences, Styles.â
- Skowhegan Artist Residencies, by invitation: Pat Blocher (2019), Jake Troyli (2019), Bahareh Khoshooee (2018), Walter Mathews (2017).
Awards and recognition:
- Art History Assistant Professor Esra Akın-Kıvanç wins fellowship from The American Council of Learned Societies (2017) and, a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities (2019). Named USF Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award.
- Associate Professor Noelle Mason, winner of the South Arts 2017 Southern Prize, âthe highest quality artistic work from the American South,â â selected for the artistic excellence of: âX-Ray Vision vs. Invisibilityâ and âBoys on Film, Nothing Much Happened Today.â
- Recognized as a program where âwork created by students and faculty is routinely World Classâ by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
- Animation and Digital Modeling program ranked in top-tier (US public university) by Animation Career: âoffers a unique opportunity for artists to pursue a âcutting edgeâ approach to Video, 2D and 3D Animation, 3D Modeling, Sound, and Digital Media.â
Our facultyâs continuing contributions to their fields:
- Art History professors Helena SzĂ©pe and Elisabeth Fraser publish new books: SzĂ©peâs âVenice Illuminated: Power and Painting in Renaissance Manuscripts,â Yale University Press. Fraserâs âMediterranean Encounters: Artists Between Europe and the Ottoman Empire, 1774â1839,â Penn State Press, awarded the âChoiceâ â 2017 Outstanding Academic Title award.
- Studio Art professors exhibiting in New York between 2017 and 2019: Sue Havens, Ezra Johnson, Jason Lazarus and Joo Yeon Woo.
- Photography professor Wendy Babcock exhibited her photogravures, "Every Olive Tree in the Garden of Gethsemane" at Arizona State University's Northlight Gallery, "Toward Reconciliation, Away."
