Spotlights

  • June 2022: Two physics undergraduate students have received 2022 NSF Graduate Research Fellowships (GRF) and they are now heading to very prestigious universities for their graduate studies. Kelli Ann Lynch will be joining Stanford while Adriana Ladera will be joining MIT. They both were mentored by Prof. Inna Ponomareva.

  • PhD student, Ms. Valery Ortiz Jiménez (Major advisor: Prof. Manh-Huong Phan), has been awarded for the prestigious 2-year National Research Council (NRC) Fellowship and will work on Quantum Transport at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Maryland. She is a model student who initially participated in our NSF-funded REU program in 2015 and, right after finishing her BS degree from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, selected USF Physics as an academic home for her PhD.

  • PhD student, Ms. Yen Pham (Major advisor: Prof. Manh-Huong Phan, Co-major advisor: Prof. Tuan M. Trinh), has received a competitive scholarship from The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to carry out a practical training at Paul-Drude-Institut für Festkörperelektronik, Berlin. She will work on growth and characterization of emerging 2D magnetic materials under the supervision of Dr. Joao Marcelo J. Lopes.

  • Brandon Davey (recent graduate, Physics B.S. 2020, now working at Samsung Austin Semiconductor) is a co-author on the paper "", which has recently been accepted by the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS), one of the major journals in astrophysics. The distribution of dark matter at the center of galaxies is a current question in observational and theoretical astrophysics, which this paper aims to illuminate. Brandon contributed to this work as part of the GRAD-MAP Winter Workshop at the University of Maryland in January of 2020.

  • PhD student, Ms. Valery Ortiz Jiménez (Major advisor: Prof. Manh-Huong Phan), has been selected for the 2022 Student Dissertation Award from the APS Topical Group on Magnetism (GMAG).

  • Professors Ivan Oleynik and Manh-Huong Phan are the recipients of the 2021 Faculty Outstanding Research Achievement Award!
