St. Pete researchers may have found a way to prevent Alzheimer’s. Since 2019, The University of South Florida has been the main site of the Preventing Alzheimer’s with Cognitive Training (PACT) study. The study has one goal: Researchers hope to examine if computerized brain training can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease in older adults who show no early signs of dementia.

Teaming up with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine's Department of Radiology, Tampa General has used 3D printing for planning aortic valve replacements, trauma surgery, cancer surgery and other reconstructions, as well as creating replicas of major organs. This potentially revolutionary technique uses 3D-printed facsimiles to better understand treatment and even reduce risk in invasive and complex surgeries.

Associate Professor Benjamin Jacob created a smartphone app that pairs his algorithm with a drone and satellite images to identify locations of previously unknown mosquito breeding habitats to treat them within the same day.
