Fieldwork is a challenge to implement in online courses, and this course requires students to not only design and develop a reading intervention but also use that lesson plan with the student.

Because this is a fully asynchronous course with very little opportunity to engage in live discussions of the modules, we developed highly interactive learning experiences where students could explore a reading classroom, and watch a recorded demonstration of the planning, instruction, and assessment of the reading intervention.

We implemented a highly engaging series of videos, using a football metaphor to identify the different phases of the reading intervention, that were strategically embedded in the course in the specific modules where they would align with the reading intervention process.
