BIO

Steven Malavé is a Visiting Professor of Practice at the University of South Florida’s Zimmerman School. He currently teaches Broadcast News and Media Management classes. Over the years, Malavé has been an invited speaker at various universities nationwide including the Norman Lear Center at the University of Southern California and the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at New York University. He is honored to be part of the teaching team at the USF’s Zimmerman School as we prepare the next generation of America’s communicators.

Malavé is a seasoned, award-winning journalist and broadcast news executive with a proven track record for quality journalism and ratings success. He is a bilingual Media Consultant and News Director who has worked with multimedia news organizations in New York, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and Tampa. The teams that Malavé has led have been honored with several of broadcast journalism’s most coveted awards, including the RTNDA/Edward R. Murrow Award, the Associated Press Award, the Society of Professional Journalists Award, and the NATAS Emmy.

With over 30 years of award-winning experience, Malavé has also served as a Reporter,
Writer/Producer and Assignment Editor for various television and radio news organizations
including: WCBS NewsRadio 880, WNBC-TV, NBC NewsChannel, WXTV/Univision 41, and WPRV-TV. He is also a Founding Fellow of the Robert C. McCormick Tribune Foundation, and he is an active member of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), the Radio & Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) and the Suncoast Chapter of NATAS (National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences).
